The station consists of a 50 m meteorological tower and a set of five cameras located at 43m. The camera set consists of two Stingray F125CF AVT cameras with fiber optic connection (GOF) and three Stingray F125C AVT cameras with a IEEE 1394b connection. All cameras have a pixel resolution of 1296x966. The cameras with the GOF connector are responsible for sending the information to a workstation located in the laboratory at a distance of 350 m through a 1394b PCI card with a GOF port.

The image acquisition is carried out by the Remote Monitoring System for Beach Monitoring -Sirena-, an open source system initially developed by the Mediterranean Institute of Advanced Studies (IMEDEA) which has been modified and improved jointly by the Institute of Marine Sciences in Barcelona and the LIPC.
The 5 cameras are programmed to capture daily images between 11 and the 23 hours UTC. These cover an approximate section of 1.8 km, from the entrance of the port to the pier of Sisal in Yucatan.

The system generates every half hour 3 products: a snapshot, temporary exposure image and a variance image. Fig. 2a shows the snapshot, Fig. 2b a temporary exposure image, these are obtained by averaging the acquired snapshots for 10 minutes every half hour at a frequency of 7.5 frames per second (fps). Fig. 2c presents an image of the variance which is obtained in the same way as the one of temporary exposure but obtaining the standard deviation.
